CoArt October Featured Artist Astrid Tuttle

Artist’s Statement

I began as a plein(plane) air painter and enjoyed the process, but about fifteen years ago I moved toward a larger, bolder and more loose approach. This more abstract depictions, starting from sketches and simplified drawings gave me emotional freedom of color, rhythm and shapes. My tools can be brushes, palette knives, fingers, toes, pencils, anything that can leave a mark. I use layering to achieve texture and color and tone to follow the contour of the sky, mountains, water and pastures.
