City News: City of Staunton Schedules for the Fourth of July In observance of the Fourth of July holiday, schedules for the City of Staunton offices and facilities will be modified on Friday, July 3. Parking, traffic and activities in and around Gypsy Hill Park will also be impacted beginning the evening of Friday, July 3, through Saturday, July 4 due to the annual Happy Birthday America celebration. Trash Collection Residential: Trash regularly scheduled for pickup on Friday, July 3 will be collected instead on Wednesday, July 1. Yard waste will be collected from city-issued bins the following week, on Wednesday, July 8. Downtown Central Business District (CBD): CBD customers will receive trash collection on Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2. There will not be pickup on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Normal pickup will resume on Monday, July 6. Recycling Center Hours The Recycling Center will be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. It will resume normal hours on Monday, July 6. Library Hours The Staunton Public Library will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, and will return to its normal schedule on Monday, July 6. The outdoor book drop will be open for returns, and digital books and other online resources are available 24/7 at www.StauntonLibrary.org. Administrative Office Hours The City of Staunton’s administrative offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day. Parks & Recreation The Parks and Recreation administrative offices at Montgomery Hall Park will be closed Friday, July 3.  Summer camps will also be closed that day. The Gypsy Hill Park Pool will be closed Saturday, July 4, while the Montgomery Hall Park pool will remain open regular hours. For admission fees and hours, visit www.staunton.va.us/pools.  Please note: the Gypsy Hill Golf Course will close early at 1 p.m. Friday, July 3, and remain closed all day Saturday, July 4, due to its proximity to the fireworks detonation area. Shop & Dine Out in Downtown Beverley Street closure for Shop & Dine Out in Downtown will be extended due to the Fourth of July holiday. The street will close beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 2 and reopen at 7:30 a.m. Monday, July 6. Happy Birthday America The all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit Happy Birthday America will host Fourth of July festivities at Gypsy Hill Park with numerous activities kicking off on Friday, July 3rd with a Carnival, food vendors, and the Red Camel Collective and throughout the day on Saturday, July 4, including a 5K run, parade, games, entertainment, vendors, and more. Fireworks are scheduled to begin around 10 p.m., after the Wilson Fairchild with Jimmy Fortune concert Saturday night. Traffic Alert Staunton residents and visitors can expect heavy traffic in and around Gypsy Hill Park on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4 with severe impacts occurring outside of the park on Saturday, July 4 due to the parade. West Beverley Street and Thornrose Avenue Thornrose Avenue will be closed Saturday, July 4 from 7:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. for the parade. Motorists can expect significant delays in the area of West Beverley Street and Churchville Avenue due to this closure. Circle Drive will also be closed from 7:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the event. Constitution Drive (in Gypsy Hill Park) Constitution Drive, the main roadway through Gypsy Hill Park, will be temporarily closed to vehicles beginning 11 p.m. Friday, July 3 until 12 p.m. Saturday, July 4. The road will be reopened for public use after the parade has ended. Parking Alert Due to the location of the July Fourth festivities, general parking will not be permitted in the Gypsy Hill Park football stadium parking lot (beside Lake Tams) from Thursday through Sunday morning; however, there will be limited parking available for individuals with a DMV approved disabled parking placard or license plate. There will be additional parking restrictions surrounding the park, including on Thornrose Avenue.   | June 29, 2026
