(asterisk indicates a ticketed show) Staunton Jams was founded by Sarah Lynch in 2004, and after a 20+ year tradition in Downtown Staunton, is in the process of achieving official nonprofit status. Staunton Jams is 100% community-funded and offers free, outdoor music at the E&E Main Stage on Beverley Street as well as some ticketed events at Sponsoring Satellite Venues. Since 2004, this event has grown into a vibrant three-day downtown festival featuring multiple venues, regional talent, and fair pay for performers—all while supporting local philanthropic efforts, and building community through music. This spring, the focus is on raising awareness and support for local mental health services, as May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. All sponsorship, donations, and proceeds from The Festival go straight back into the mission to build community through music. Live music serves as a vital ‘community glue,’ strengthening social bonds, enhancing mental well-being, and driving local economies through shared experiences. By creating vibrant spaces for connection, live music turns strangers into acquaintances and strengthens cultural pride. Staunton Jams is presented by 106.3 WQSV, Queen City Music Studios, and The Judy Chops, and is organized by an all-volunteer administrative team.  BE PART OF HOW STAUNTON JAMS and get involved as a sponsor, volunteer, or make a donation!

The Secret Life of Bookshops

The Secret Life of Bookshops

You probably think you know what a bookshop is. A place to buy books. Maybe browse. Maybe linger. But is that really all? This Indie Bookshop Day, we’re asking the question out loud — and we’ve brought two of the most thoughtful people writing about bookshops today to help answer it. Evan Friss is the author of The Bookshop, a New York Times bestseller and Goodreads Choice Award winner in History & Biography — named one of Time’s 100 Must-Read Books of 2024. A history of the American bookstore from Benjamin Franklin to Amazon, it argues that bookshops have never just been retail spaces — they’ve been sites of resistance, community, and cultural life. Anika Horn is the writer behind 40 Bookshops Under 40, a personal journey through independent bookshops across the country, and beyond. Her project began, fittingly, when she walked into an indie bookshop and found Evan’s book. Together with our host Julia — bookseller, curator, and your local guide to all of this — and with you in the room as the fourth voice, we’ll explore what bookshops have been, what they are now, and what they need to become. Are they businesses or cultural institutions? Are they endangered or evolving? And what do we actually lose when one closes? Doors open at 6:30. Bring your memories, your questions, and your opinions.

The country is plagued with pestilence, and folks are turning into angry, horned dinosaurs. Dang it! All Boo wants to do is look at her phone and drink wine, But her best friend and everybody else keeps biting her head off about everything. This play contains foul language, depictions of violence, current events, and other items unsuitable for some viewers.
