Introduction to Encaustic Painting: Painting with Fire with Lynne Miller

Lynne is so excited to offer an introduction to encaustic painting workshop. You’ll go over a brief history of what encaustic is, choosing the right surface, and the dos/don’t of painting with heat. All art enthusiasts from beginners to intermediate are welcome. Lynne will discuss and demonstrate various techniques you can incorporate when working on your pieces; smooth vs textured surfaces, how to mix color, working transparent vs opaque, mark making, and touch on encaustic oil sticks. Each participant will be given 2 panels to work on during their class. The first one you will work on together with Lynne as she discusses different techniques. This will be your sample board and the second is your “Do Your Thing” piece. Paint, heated pallets, heat guns/torches, and assorted supplies will be provided. Please feel free to bring any materials you would like to incorporate into your personal piece or any special mark making tools (dental tools, pottery scraping tools etc). There will also be an assortment of tools as well for your use.
